Ans: Please visit our website at https://canberra.mofa.gov.bd/en/site/page/Renewal-of-MRP follow all the steps and attach all required documents and send to the High Commission by post. You are requested to send email at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any specific query.
Q: Do I need to come to the High Commission for reissuance of MRP?
Ans. No, you need not to come unless you need to change your existing photo. However, if the applicant had MRP when he/she was less than 6 years old, now he/she needs physically appear at the High Commission to provide finger prints and photo and signature (if he/she is more than 6 years old by now).
Q: Do I need to have appointment for MRP related services?
Ans: Yes, you are required to have an appointment to get MRP related services. Appearances without appointment cannot be guaranteed services the same day.
Q. I have a handwritten passport. How can I renew it?
Ans: Please visit our website at https://canberra.mofa.gov.bd/en/site/page/New-MRP , follow all the steps and attach all required documents. Please note physical appearance is mandatory to have a new MRP. Please request for an appointment at email@example.com. Once your appointment is confirmed, come to the High Commission with all required documents.
Q: I had a handwritten passport and I want to get a MRP. I don’t have that previous passport and also don’t have the digital birth certificate/ NID. Why do you need that passport and digital birth certificate/ NID?
Ans: You have to possess Bangladeshi digital birth certificate or NID as this is the main requirement to get an MRP. Passports can only be issued to Bangladesh citizens and these documents help establish entitlement. You also need to submit the hand written passport, if lost then police report and photocopy of the old passport and document on your current status of visa/citizenship in Australia.
Q: Do I need to fill the form online for new MRP from handwritten passport?
Ans: You must fill and submit the form online, link available at
and then take a print out and bring it with you during attending your appointment.
Q: What will be the size for the passport photographs?
Ans: Passport size photograph, 35mm to 40mm wide and 45mm to 50mm high with white background.
Q: I applied online but did not get my ID/ password yet when I apply for MRP online.
Ans: The High Commission does not provide any ID or password for MRP online applicants. You have to complete the form in a one go and after final submission you will find Download form/ print out form box on the screen.
Q: I am trying to fill up online but the bank details are showing all Bangladeshi bank details.
Ans: At Stage 1 you have to select ‘Applying in: Australia’. Then the system will allow payment from Australian Banks.
Q: Do I need to attest my form?
Ans: Yes, you have to attest your form, this is one of the main requirements from the Bangladesh passport Office. Attestation can be done by GP/ JP/ Police.
Q: I need to attest the form but the 4th page of the form (certification part) is written in Bangla and no one agrees to attest it.
Ans: You can go to any Bangladeshi GP/ JP. If you are unable to find anyone, please attach your photographs on the first page of the filled in form and then attest it from any local GP/ JP/ Police etc.
Q: Why cannot I change my name/ DOB etc?
Ans: This the Government rules in Bangladesh. You cannot make certain major changes in your passport. Q: Can I get e-Passport from Australia?
E-passport facility has recently been operationalized in a few of Bangladesh Missions abroad. Due to the COVID induced border closure the installation of the E-passport system has been delayed in Australia. Bangladesh Consulate General in Sydney is likely to be considered ahead of Bangladesh High Commission in Canberra in the rolling out of the e-passport service which cannot be done before the second half of 2022.

Q: What is the expected delivery time for MRP reissuance?
Ans: The indicative delivery time frame is 20-25 working days for express/urgent payment (A$290) and 30-35 working days for regular payment (A$145).
Q: What is the expected delivery time for getting MRP from handwritten passport?
Ans: Getting MRP from handwritten passport involves police verification in Bangladesh which usually takes long time, not generally within 3-4 months.
Q: How can I track the status of my MRP application?
Ans: Once the High Commission receives and processes your application, an email/ text message will be sent to your number to inform you the status of your application. The passport is printed in Department of Immigration and Passport (DIP) in Bangladesh and then DIP sends it to the High Commission which may take 20-25 working days (for emergency delivery), or 30-35 days for regular delivery. You need not to contact the High Commission within this timeframe. Once the High Commission receives your passport, it will be sent to your address provided you have given a return envelope and current passport. However, if the application requires police approval from Bangladesh, it generally takes much longer, 3-4 months.
Q: How can I track my post?
Ans: You must preserve the tracking number of the return envelope before sending to the High Commission to track your passport when the High Commission posts it.
Q. How is the delivery time by Bangladesh High Commission in comparison to other Embassies of South Asian Countries of Canberra?
Ans: High Commission of Pakistan, India and Sri Lanka provide such service in 4 weeks, 8 weeks and 8-12 weeks respectively. As such Bangladesh High Commission in Canberra takes satisfaction in its MRP services which succeeds in issuing 90% plus passports within a month if required documents are provided. Australian High Commission in Dhaka takes much longer time to attain similar percentage.
Q. What are the possible causes of delays?
Ans. Delays in issuance of passports are experienced for
submission of inadequate documents or with conflicting information
submission after passport lost its validity
cases that require police verification such as change of permanent address, name, date of birth, parent’s name and other vital information
biometric data mismatch etc.
Besides, applicants who had sought asylum, in countries of jurisdictions such as Australia as well as those who came on official passports and want to change it to normal passport without completing the processing of resignation and obtaining NOC from the concerned Ministry are required greater scrutiny and back and forth communications with authorities in Bangladesh and as such are not likely to get passports from Bangladesh High Commission, Canberra like other applicants.
