Who can Apply

Bangladeshi origin nationals living in Australia except for NSW and Queensland can submit their applications to the Bangladesh High Commission in Canberra. Bangladeshi origin nationals living in NSW & Queensland are requested to process their e-passport application through Bangladesh Consulate General in Sydney. 

Mandatory Physical Appearance

Please note Physical Appearance is mandatory for e-passport enrolment, as such, applicants must request an appointment by sending an email to mrp.canberra@mofa.gov.bd under subject line:  e-passport appointment request_name. This email should include scanned copies of the following documents:

  1. Completed e-Passport application with barcode

  2. Bangladeshi National ID (NID)

  3. Information page of Machine-Readable Passport (MRP) if already have MRP/handwritten passport

  4. 17-digit Online Verifiable Birth Certificate in English (only required if NID card is not available). Birth Certificate must be online verifiable and in English. Please verify your Birth Certificate here

  5. Copy of valid visa/ foreign passport


  6. Mention your place of residence in the email body.

After receiving the request, the Mission will allocate a date and time for biometric enrolment at the High Commission. Please note that NO appointments will be provided over the phone.

For children under the age of six, NO appointment is necessary for e-passport applications. In such cases, please post all necessary documents to the High Commission. Please check out ‘Required Documents’ section on this webpage for further details.

Application Process and required documents


A.  Steps of e-Passport application process


  • Step 1: Pre-Enrolment Applicants must lodge their application online. Please apply online at https://epassport.gov.bd/landing.

  • Step 2: Biometric Enrolment Applicants are required to appear in person at the High Commission to submit their fingerprint, iris scan, photograph, and signature. This step is by appointment only.

  • Step 3: Payment While filling out the form, please choose the ‘offline payment’ option. Payments can be made using a credit card or EFTPOS at the reception counter, although a surcharge will be applied on top of the consular fees for EFTPOS payments. If you pay to the High Commission’s Bank Account (Electronic Fund Transfer), please ensure the EFT payment is completed at least three working days before submitting the application at the Mission. Additionally, a copy of the payment transaction should be attached to the application form.

  • Step 4: Ready and Collection  Notification will be sent to the applicant once the passport is ready for collection. If self-addressed return envelope has already been provided, the passport will be sent directly by post.


B. Filling the form:

  1. Applicants must lodge their applications online. Please apply online via https://epassport.gov.bd/landing.

  2. During the online application process, ensure you have your NID, MRP Passport, and 17-digit online verifiable birth certificate (in English) at hand.

  3. Use an email ID to create an account.

  4. Select ‘Canberra’ as your application processing office.

  5. After submitting your application, download the form with the barcode (PDF format).

  6. Ensure your present address is in Australia (Other than NSW/QLD) and the permanent address matches that on your NID/Bangladesh Birth Certificate.

  7. Avoid using prefixes like Mr./Mrs./Ms./Dr. with your first name. Instead, write your middle name (if any) with your first name, unless your existing documents specify otherwise.

  8. All fields marked with an asterisk (*) are mandatory.

  9. Do not deviate from the information provided in your NID/BRC.

  10. Machine-Readable Passports (MRPs) may still be used as long as they are valid, so there’s no need to apply for an e-Passport if your MRP’s validity extends beyond a year.

  11. If any discrepancies arise between your NID and MRP, they must be corrected before proceeding with your e-Passport application.

C. Required Documents


For Children’s First Bangladesh Passport (7-18 years)

  1. Print the online completed form with barcode and bring the following documents.

  2. Original Australian Birth Certificate [if born in Australia]

  3. Original copy of 17 digit online verifiable Bangladeshi birth certificate [English]

    Birth Certificate must be online verifiable and in English. Please verify your Birth Certificate here

  4. 3R size lab printed white background photo [not older than 3 months] (2 copies)

  5. Parents’ NID/MRP/e-Passport copy

  6. Copy of Marriage Registration Certificate of parents (must be JP attested)

  7. Copy of valid visas of parents

  8. Proof of Payment (printed hard copy)

  9. A self-addressed (write your full name & address in the recipient side of the envelope) registered postage paid return envelope.


For Reissuance of a Children’s Passport (7-18 yr old)

  1. Print the online completed form with barcode and bring the following documents.

  2. 17 Digit online verifiable birth certificate [English]

Special Provision for Children below 6 years

  1. Print the online completed form with barcode and send the following documents by post to the Mission’s address.

  2. Completed form must be signed by their parents. If you notice an error, you can manually correct it. The High Commission will make necessary corrections during data entry.

  3. Original Australian Birth Certificate or a coloured photocopy attested by a JP [If born in Australia]

  4. Original copy of the 17 Digit Online verifiable Bangladesh birth certificate or a coloured photocopy attested by a JP (English copy)

  5. Copy of Parents’ Marriage Registration Certificate (must be attested by a JP)

  6. Copy of Parents’ NID/MRP [Proof of Bangladesh citizenship]

  7. Valid Visas of parents/copy of the Parents’ Australian Passport

  8. 3R size (3.5 x 5 inches) lab printed white background colour photo [not older than 3 months] (2 copies). In the photo, forehead must be clear. Any artificial facial marks on the forehead will not be accepted.

  9. Original recently expired passport [If any]. Not required if applying for the first time.

  10. Proof of Payment (printed hard copy)

  11. A self-addressed (write your full name & address in the recipient side of the envelope) registered postage paid return envelope.

(Applicants are requested to send registered postage-paid return envelope only after receiving the e-mail that your passport is ready collection)


For Reissuance of Adults’ Passport

  1. Print the online completed form with barcode and bring the following documents.

  2. Copy of Bangladeshi National ID Card/Smart ID card

  3. Machine Readable Passport (MRP)/ Last Bangladeshi passport (if already have one)

  4. 17 Digit Online Verifiable Birth Certificate [English], if there is no NID.

For Replacement of Lost/Stolen MRP/e-Passport

  1. Print the online completed form with barcode and bring the following documents.

  2. Original lost report from Police/ original GD copy

  3. Copy of the lost passport

  4. A signed application addressed to the Consul General with details of lost passport and police report number.

  5. Copy of NID/17 Digit Online Verifiable Birth Certificate (English) [whichever was used during the issuance of the lost passport]

For Reissuance of Official Passport [Only for Bangladesh Govt Officials]

  3. Machine Readable Passport (MRP)/E-Passport

  4. 17 Digit Online Verifiable Birth Certificate [English]

    Birth Certificate must be online verifiable and in English. Please verify your Birth Certificate here

  5. GO/NOC for official passport from the Relevant Ministry/Department [Only for the Bangladesh government service holders] and it has to be circulated in the respective website.

For International Students and their dependents:

In addition to the required documents,  international students who want to get e-passport for a reduced fee (see below) must provide

Please read carefully before you pay the fees:

  1. Passport fees are non-refundable regardless of whether the application is rejected or withdrawn.

  2. The Bangladesh High Commission in Canberra and the Consulate General of Bangladesh in Sydney are two separate offices. Hence any payments made to the Consulate General in Sydney cannot be used for services provided by High Commission of Bangladesh in Canberra. 

  3. Fees are subject to change without prior notice.

  4. The EFT payment of the fee shall be made at least 03 working days prior to submitting the application form. A copy of the payment transaction shall be attached to the application form.

  5. Cash/personal cheque/Direct Deposit is NOT accepted.

  6. Payments can be made using a credit card/debit card at the High Commission, although a surcharge will be applied on top of the consular fees for EFTPOS payments.

Please note that the High Commission does not accept payments by cash, credit card, personal cheque or direct deposit. The High Commission requests to make the payments by any of the following methods:

The processing time for an e-Passport may vary due to the thorough security and information validation procedures implemented by both the e-Passport system, Department of Immigration and Passport office, Dhaka and Special Branch, Bangladesh Police, if police verification is required. These checks are carried out to confirm the authenticity of the information provided during the application process.

  • Any changes to the information provided, or undisclosed/fraudulent information, may result in potential cancellation/ delays/ extending the usual processing time.
